With a Jodhpur court expected to pronounce the verdict in the Asaram Bapu rape case tomorrow, the Rajasthan Police are on their toes to avoid a repeat of the violence and mayhem that prevailed in Panchkula, Haryana after the conviction of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Singh. Asaram is accused of raping a minor girl from Uttar Pradesh. The alleged rape took place in August 2013 and Asaram was arrested in the case in September the year. He has been in jail ever since.

Tagged as the murder of Democracy, six policemen were injured today when the BJP and the Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers clashed at Usti in South 24 Parganas district over the filing of nominations for next months panchayat elections in West Bengal, the police said. The BJP had on March 6 told the apex court that "democracy is being murdered" in West Bengal as the ruling TMC was engaged in large-scale violence and not allowing its candidates to file nominations for the panchayat polls.
